Article Processing Charges (APC)

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

The Journal of Bone and Soft Tissue Surgery (JBSS) is committed to providing authors with a transparent and affordable publication process. To support accessibility and encourage submissions during the journal’s launch phase, no article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees will be applied during the first year of publication. This initial waiver reflects the journal’s mission to promote the free and open dissemination of high-quality research in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.

Beginning with the second year of publication, JBSS will implement a modest APC of USD 150 per accepted article. This fee is intended solely to cover the essential costs of the publishing process, which include:

  • Editorial assessment and coordination of peer review.

  • Copyediting, typesetting, and formatting of the final manuscript.

  • Digital archiving and long-term preservation.

  • Assignment of a Crossref DOI for permanent article identification.

  • Online hosting and global open-access dissemination.

Importantly, there are no hidden charges at any stage of the submission or review process. Authors will receive an invoice only after their manuscript has been formally accepted for publication, ensuring that financial considerations do not influence editorial decisions.

The journal also recognizes that some researchers may face financial challenges. Waivers or partial discounts may be granted on a case-by-case basis, particularly for authors affiliated with institutions in low-income countries or for those who can demonstrate genuine financial hardship. Requests for fee waivers will be treated with confidentiality and fairness, without prejudice to the editorial decision-making process.

Through this balanced approach, JBSS seeks to maintain high editorial and production standards while ensuring that financial considerations do not become a barrier to scholarly communication.
